How to Get Furniture Polish off an LCD TV Screen
July 22, 2011 by admin
An LCD TV screen is very attractive, but it sometimes can become dirty fast. You should keep it clean but also realize that you need to purchase the right cleaners and use the right cleaning methods.
Otherwise, you could risk the chance of damaging your TV screen. If you do not want to purchase a commercial cleaner sometimes a homemade solution can be used.
To clean your LCD TV screen you need distilled water, isopropyl alcohol (70% concentration), spray bottle, and microfiber cloth. You would apply these ingredients and supplies throughout the course of removing dirt, grime, and other gunk from your television.
If you want to remove stains from your LCD stain you should use the following guidelines:
- You should unplug your television. It should not be connected to any power strip, outlet, or device that gives off power.
- Now it is time to prepare your cleaning solution. You can mix equal parts of distilled water and alcohol in a spray bottle. However, do NOT spray the solution directly on your LCD screen! Or you could damage it. Instead, refer to the next step.
- When you spray the microfiber cloth with a cleaning solution it should be slightly damp, not dripping wet. Otherwise, just like if you were to spray the cleaning solution on the LCD monitor you could ruin it.
- When you wipe your LCD monitor use only gentle pressure. For best results, wipe in the same direction all the way across from the top down. This will help avoid streaks as you clean the screen.
- Sometimes more than one cleaning is necessary for removing all of the dirt and grime from your LCD screen. Still, each time be careful and do not press hard.
- One you are finished, you are advised to wait a few moments for the screen to dry. Then, once you know its dry you can plug the television back in.
More Advice
Additional products and cleaning methods may be needed. However, you should be careful that they are products meant for LCD monitors. Certain kinds of cleaners meant for eyeglasses or cell phone screens might possibly be appropriate, but never use window cleaner.
You could find certain wipes that are sold in stores that are made especially for LCD monitors. You should really use these over any other commercial product. To be on the safe side, you should pay attention to the care guidelines provided by the manufacturer of your television.
As far as cleaning kits, sometimes they may even be provided with televisions when you purchase them. However, if you never received one maybe you can go back to the store where you purchased your TV. They may have a selection of cleaning kits and products made for your brand of television.
If you have any questions regarding television cleaning solutions maybe you should ask a sales person in the electronics department. This is the best way to find out how you can clean your prized home theatre electronic device while prolonging the life of it rather than reducing the life of it.

A paper shredder is one of life’s most important machines. However, if you do not maintain it properly it could burn out and become unusable faster than you hoped.
Prevention is one of the first steps in cleaning and maintaining your paper shredder. However, it also helps to find a way to also cleanse it properly.
Preparation for Cleaning:
Before you clean your shredder you should make sure it is turned off and unplugged. If it is a battery-operated or otherwise powdered unit, you should remove the batteries. This is very important because you do not want to lose your fingers in the shredder while cleaning it.
After the machine is turned off you should then be able to disassemble it very easily. All you have to do is remove the lid from the main container but while doing so you should not try to force the pieces apart. Otherwise, you could risk breaking the machine.
If you are having any trouble removing the lid from the rest of the machine you may want to seek help. You may find answers in the owner’s manual or you might be able to call the manufacturer for assistance.
Just so you know, the shredder cleaning process should not require too much effort. After all, the hope is all that you put in it is paper, unless you have one that is equipped for shredding credit cards.
The steps for cleaning your shredder are shown below:
- First, you would gather your supplies and mix your solution. As far as ink smudges or dust, that can be cleaned off with a cloth or paper towel and a preferred cleaning solution. You can either use a dish soap mixed with lukewarm water or you can use regular vinegar and rubbing alcohol.
- If you decide to use the dish soap and water, mix the solution in a cereal bowl using your hands or a spoon. Then, dip a cloth into it or use a paper towel and wring it out tight.
- If you would rather use the vinegar or rubbing alcohol just pour the solution directly on the cloth but not directly on the shredder. You should wring the moistened cloth out tight before you use it.
- Use a clean and dry cloth or paper towel to wipe away any residue from the cleaning solution away. Then, let the machine air dry or you can use a dry paper towel or cloth to wipe away any left-behind moisture.
More Maintenance Advice:You do not need to clean your paper shredder out all the time. Just once in a while, or maybe a few times a year. Of course, the obvious exception is if you spill something on it.
The one thing you should do on a regular basis is oil your shredder. This should be done once a week, but maybe more often if you notice your shredder gets jammed too much. This is important because lack of lubrication is more than likely the cause of paper jams than is the machine being dirty.

- Pull out all the buttons from the circuit board and put them aside. Then, place the circuit board on a clean, dry surface. But if no surface is available place the remote control on a paper towel.
- Cleaning the circuit board requires using the right kind of solution. Water should absolutely not be used for this cleaning job. Instead, either rubbing alcohol or commercial contact cleaner should be tried. These can be found at most electronic stores.
- Usually you can spray a contact cleaner on if it comes in a spray bottle. Either that or you can use a cotton swab to gently wipe away any gunk with the rubbing alcohol. When doing so your swab should be intact and you should make sure no fuzz is left behind on the circuit board.

- Whencleaning the buttons of the remote, you should use a mixture of dish soap and water if you want. Otherwise, you can just use the rubbing alcohol. If you decide to use the dish soap mixture you can add about a teaspoon of dish soap to two cups of water and mix them together in a bowl.
- If you want to scrub a keypad with a cotton swab or an old toothbrush you can let the buttons air dry. Otherwise, you can wipe them with a handkerchief, old t-shirt, or microfiber cloth to ensure the inside of the remote is not indundated with lint.

For this the batteries should be left out of the remote until after this cleaning step is done.
